You should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace…If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised… (1 Peter 4:10-11)
For the 26th year, we will hold our annual “Feast of Plenty” on Thanksgiving Day from 12 – 2 p.m. This is an entirely volunteer effort in which we offer a free traditional Thanksgiving meal to all members of the community.
Last year, volunteers served 559 in Merriam Hall and take out meals and more volunteers delivered 768 meals to those unable to join us at the church.
How is all of this accomplished? An army of volunteers sign up to cook, serve meals, provide transportation to and from the meal, and deliver meals to those unable to join us at the church. Volunteers also make or purchase desserts (pies, cakes, cookies, cupcakes…), greet and visit with our guest, take phone calls, clean up and provide additional help where needed. In the weeks before the meal, phone calls flood the church phone lines inquiring about the meal, those wanting meals delivered and those who desire to help. This adds a lot of work to an already very busy church office. We are looking for volunteers to help answer the phones at the church to help lighten the load of our staff.
Many volunteers make this an annual tradition and spend their holiday helping others in the name of Christ and His love.
How Can I Help?
The Feast of Plenty could not happen without the many volunteers and your generous monetary donations. There are many opportunities to get involved in this important event.
Meal Delivery (need 6-8 groups for each time slot – see times below)
Delivering meals to people in our community, who may not be able or have the means to come to Central Baptist Church or may not be able to or have the means to make a Thanksgiving meal for their family whom are coming over to their house.
What to expect: We suggest an adult male in every group (for safety reasons). When you come during your signed up time, you will receive a list of names, how many meals they have requested, & special instructions (if any) with a map & detailed directions to the persons house. Then you will go down to the food serving line in Merriam Hall to pick up your box of meals and desserts. TIMES: Please come 10 minutes prior to the time slot!
10:30am – 10:45am
10:45am – 11:00am
11:00am – 11:15am
11:15am – 11:30am
11:30am – 11:45am
11:45am – 12:00pm
**You need to sign up for a time increment that you can come pick up your list and meals**
Serving Line (need 16 people for each time slot: 10:30am – 12:00pm & 12:00pm – 2:00pm)
Putting food into containers for meal deliveries or onto plates for people whom have come to the church for a meal. Please come 10 minutes prior to your time slot!
Greet & Visit with Guests (need 4 people 10:30 – 11:30am & 8-10 people 11:30am – 2:00pm)
Greeting guests at the door or visiting with our guests in Merriam Hall. For those in Merriam Hall, will also be serving them by getting them something to drink or refilling their drink or getting them anything else they may need – would also like some people in this group whom are willing to pray & have conversations with our guests as needed.
CLEAN UP (need 12 people 2:00pm – approx 3:30pm)
We desperately need people to assist with cleaning up in the kitchen and in Merriam Hall after the event! This is also a great service opportunity – and would possibly work for those people/families whom have a lunch commitment but have this time to serve after lunch!
Bringing Dessert (need infinite number of desserts)
People who have the skills to bake those delicious desserts or whom are able to buy a dessert – this is the volunteer opportunity for you! We’ll take any type of dessert (cookies, cakes, pies, cupcakes, ect.) – if some of these are sugar-free, that would be great!!!!
If you can’t make it on Thanksgiving and would like to support through prayer or a financial gift to help cover costs, that would be a blessing as well.
Your help in any way is greatly appreciated! Please sign up using the sign-up sheet in the “Serve the World” center off of the Welcome Center at the Springfield Campus or use the one in the lobby at the New Berlin Campus, contact the church office or fill out the form below (please indicate time available).
