Feast of Plenty: Bless Others this Thanksgiving
For over three decades Feast of Plenty has helped to make sure anyone who needs a meal on Thanksgiving can access one! On Thanksgiving day, November 23rd, people can dine in at Central from 12 – 2 p.m. or have a meal delivered if they call 217-523-3639 and request a delivery before noon on Wednesday, November 22nd.
Last year, around 1,000 meals were served between those who came to eat at Central and those who requested deliveries!
How is all of this accomplished? An amazing group of volunteers sign up to cook, serve meals, and deliver meals to those unable to join us at the church. Volunteers also donate desserts (store bought pies, cakes, cookies, cupcakes…), greet and visit with our guests, clean up, and provide additional help where needed.
Many volunteers make this an annual tradition and spend their holiday helping others as a way of loving God and loving their neighbor.
How Can I Help?
Feast of Plenty could not happen without the church and community coming together to bless others. There are many opportunities to get involved in this year’s event.
Delivering meals to people in our community who are unable to come enjoy a meal at Central.
What to expect: When you come during your time slot, you will receive a list of names, how many meals they have requested, special instructions (if any), & a map with detailed directions to each delivery location. After checking in at the front of the sanctuary, you will go to the basement to pick up meals and desserts to deliver.
Delivery drivers are needed in the following time slots:
10:30am – 10:45am / 10:45am – 11:00am / 11:00am – 11:15am / 11:15am – 11:30am / 11:30am – 11:45am / 11:45am – 12:00pm
Putting food into containers for meal deliveries or onto plates for people whom have come to the church for a meal. Please come 10 minutes prior to your time slot!
Greet Guests at Doors
Greet people as they arrive to church, let them in, and direct them where to go.
Visit with Guests
Visiting with our guests in Merriam Hall. You can serve guests by getting drinks, refilling drinks, or getting other items as needed – we would also like some people in this group who are willing to sit at tables to converse and pray with our guests.
The clean up crew is needed to clean dishes, empty trash, and to clean the kitchen and Merriam Hall after the event. With a large crew, this process can potentially get done within an hour!
Due to health code stipulations, only store bought desserts can be served.
**We ask that all volunteers arrive at least ten minutes early for their time slot. If volunteers are late we will have to fill volunteers spots with volunteers who are available to keep things moving on time.
If you can’t make it on Thanksgiving and would like to support through prayer or a financial gift to help cover costs, that would be a blessing as well.
Your help in any way is greatly appreciated!
You should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace…If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised… (1 Peter 4:10-11)
